lazy pizza and tamarind lentils January 14, 2008

i picked up some garlic afghani barbari bread after work one night.  then i topped it with zatar, grape tomatoes, kalamata olives, and sliced breast of tofu and baked it a little.  really good!  i am always forgetting about that barbari bread in the mediterranean case.  it makes a great pizza base.

i also made the tamarind lentils from vcon with some saffron basmati.  i had heard good things about this dish over at the ppk and have been wanting to make it for awhile.  i wasn’t really sure what i was expecting since i don’t usually make things with tamarind.  but it was pretty good, and had ginger and garam masala in it, although i think it is better as a side dish because of its simplicity (ie – lack of vegetables).  i think maybe a salad or some sauteed greens or something would have been nice to have, or perhaps some baked tofu.  pardon my rambling!  i’m feeling the backlash of that whiskey i drank last night.  eep!

I had not heard of barbari bread before. Both dishes look excellent! I’m loving the close-up of the lentils.

Hey, as long as it tastes good, who cares if you’re lazy with the pizza?

It looks awesome! I’ve never tried it, but I think some thick naan would be a yummy pizza base too.
